Toile Chair Side

Edwardian “Toile de Jouy” chair

One of my early projects which I remained emotionally attached to for a long time after its completion.

I fell in love with the frame because of its simple lines and even though it was in a complete state of disrepair I just had to buy it.

The fabric came later. I thought that the chair lent itself to something with a story and a heavy linen “Toile de Jouy” (“La Fete Champetre” by F Schumacher & Co) fitted it perfectly.

The chair is upholstered traditionally using mixed hair and coir. The seat is sprung and has a feather and down cushion.
